There is no better ‘Culture’ than sports. Let me explain the statement. 

What is culture according to the Oxford Mini Dictionary? The arts, customs of a nation or group. In other words, these arts and culture bind the people or unite the people to be as a group or to be identified as a group or a nation. Each of them owns the culture, is a part of the culture, and represents the culture. Enough of culture. On to the sports now. 

You sit in front of the television in one corner of India watching and rooting for a Spaniard playing in the Australian Open. There is no barrier of language, region, race, religion, gender, color. Nothing. It’s the sport that wins. It’s the sport that binds us. Just the emotion of winning and losing a point. 

Be it any conversation, with anyone, once you arrive at the topic of sports, your common love will make the conversation more lively, engaging. If you love the same player, both of you would boast that favorite player. If you hate the same player, that’s it, both of you would love to share the never-ending hate and take a dim view of his abilities. 

Do you see this now? Sports can bring harmony and peace, not shying away from the fact that it brings in a lot of differences and tension. But, it is the reason we talk, we fight, & we love. Let’s take a moment to appreciate the ones who invented all these different sports, the ones who had taken them forward to this point, the ones who are taking them forward now, and the ones who will be.
